What is Competitive Intelligence?

Competitive intelligence (CI) is the disciplined collection, analysis, and dissemination of public information about competitors, markets, and the competitive environment to inform strategy.

Long definition

Modern CI combines structured battlecard tooling (Crayon, Klue) with real-time monitoring (AI tools like AyeWatch) and human analysis. The day-to-day work involves tracking competitor product launches, pricing changes, hires, press, partnerships, and customer wins. Strong CI programs distribute insights into sales (battlecards), product (roadmap input), marketing (positioning), and the exec team (strategy).

Examples

  • Catching a competitor's pricing-page restructure on day one and updating sales talking points within 24 hours.
  • Tracking competitor LinkedIn job posts to infer roadmap direction (e.g. a sudden burst of 'mobile engineer' postings).
  • Monitoring industry-analyst coverage to anticipate market-narrative shifts.

How Ayewatch handles it

AyeWatch is the real-time alerting layer of a competitive intelligence stack. One topic per competitor (product + pricing + press) plus one topic per industry trend gives a small team coverage that previously required a dedicated CI analyst.
