Retailer "notify me" buttons are polite. They are also late. Most batch an email after the wave already checked out. High-demand SKUs sell out twice before that message lands. The waitlist page itself will jitter on cookie banners and hero slides. That is not stock. That is a page fidgeting.

Waitlists are a different product

What should fire, what should not
Fire: sold out becomes purchasable. Preorder becomes ships now. "Email when available" becomes a live button. Do not fire: a new related-item carousel, a size chart restyle, a waitlist form that swapped copy. Write the rule in that language. "Tell me when Add to Cart is back. Ignore layout."
Watch the variant. Size 11 is not size 10. 16 GB is not 32 GB. Category pages will show "in stock" because a random color is available. That is how people buy the wrong thing in a panic.

Limits
