arXiv alerts watch new preprints in a category or topic without living in the daily listing.

You already know the ritual. Open the cs.CL new list before coffee. Scroll fifty titles. Save two PDFs. Miss the third because the authors said "sequence modeling" instead of "language model." The official category mail is the same dump, just later, in a folder you stopped opening.

The listing is complete and still a bad alert

Completeness is why people live in the HTML. Completeness is also why they miss papers. astro-ph.GA and cond-mat.str-el are readable if that is your entire life. Mix two categories and you are skimming, not reading. A keyword for "diffusion" pages you on every toy MNIST note. Write the project instead.

Paste the new-list URL

Copy the category new page, not a single abs link that will rot. Write the rule like a Slack to a labmate. "Ping me when a preprint is about score-based models for cryo-EM reconstruction. Skip course notes and pure survey dumps." A restyle of the arXiv header should stay quiet. A new matching abs should not.

If a group posts PDFs on a lab publications page before arXiv, paste that URL too. The live page is the source. Scholar will notice when it notices.

Add a topic when the idea can land anywhere

Some work shows up in cs.LG, stat.ML, and a workshop site the same week. A topic with no URL covers that. "New preprints on conformal prediction for clinical risk scores."
